PeppermintOS Software Center integration

Include the graphical package manager in an ISO or disk image:

The software-center profile installs Tkinter, Pillow, CustomTkinter, DarkDetect, XBPS, Flatpak, PolicyKit, sudo and xdg-utils. It shares the local Python dependency packages with Welcome and Suggested. Mock mode validates and selects the profile without compiling packages or accessing the network.

Installed files

• /usr/share/pep-store: bundled Software Center runtime and translations.

• /usr/bin/pep-store: unprivileged launcher.

• /usr/share/applications/pep-store.desktop: applications menu entry.

• /usr/share/pixmaps/pep-store.png: application icon.

The application runs as the desktop user. PolicyKit or the backend’s sudo fallback requests privileges only when a package operation needs them.

Package cards resolve raster icons from the installed freedesktop icon theme. The icon index is built once and cached, so scrolling and filtering do not repeat recursive filesystem searches.

Updating the bundled application

python3 tools/sync_software_center.py /path/to/software-center \
  configs/custom_files/pep-store/app

The synchronizer copies runtime files only and excludes tests, virtual environments, bytecode and developer cache files. The source repository uses XDG-aware cache/config paths; no user state is included in the image.
